Introduction

The live-action promo movie to promote the blockbuster Playstation game, Second Son, unfolds when a spirited, super-powered youth decides to play pranks on an elite force. Over a few hours, he infiltrates their domain, causing mischief. The narrative demands swiftness, cleverness, and meticulous planning to surprise the audience at each juncture continually. His arsenal includes his extraordinary abilities, resourcefulness, and graffiti.

The Brief

We were instructed to create diverse mixed media concepts that dynamically interact within and upon the environment.

Our mission was to construct the world inhabited by Delsin and develop design concepts that would evoke an authentic atmosphere. We examined various aspects, ranging from characters and vehicles to the streets and buildings traversed by the narrative.

A pivotal focus was ensuring that the visual language employed effectively conveyed Delsin’s rebellious spirit and the dystopian, oppressive backdrop inducing widespread fear. Delsin, endowed with superhuman abilities, grapples with a status akin to that of a terrorist.

Drawing parallels with the contemporary war on terror, the state enjoys unrestricted surveillance, and public sentiment is marked by animosity. The D.U.P. embodies themes of security and fear, juxtaposed against Delsin’s representation of freedom. Unrestricted by norms, his artistic expression, reminiscent of Banksy, serves as a playful affront to authority. With a subversive sense of humor, Delsin utilizes his graffiti to mock the D.U.P., engaging in an artistic form of guerrilla warfare that challenges and ridicules the establishment.

The Output

We created a diverse array of design concepts, each meticulously crafted to exert a profound influence on the overarching aesthetics, atmosphere, and emotional undertones shaping the narrative of the PlayStation game, “Second Son.” Our output contributed visual elements that not only captivated the audience but also played a pivotal role in steering the mood and emotions inherent to the gaming experience. By focusing on innovative design approaches, we enhanced the immersive qualities of the game, ensuring that every visual facet seamlessly integrated with the storyline, creating a compelling and unforgettable gaming journey for PlayStation enthusiasts.
